Petite Sirah 2015

Yesterday at about 10 am with temperatures in the mid 70s F, we harvested out first Petite Sirah grapes. Some were partially eaten and some were in a state of decay. But the time was now to bring the clusters in.

As you can see, the battle cry of 30 or so quail led us to action. The wallowers made a good mess of is known as the triangle. All corn was picked at two or three inches by the bobble heads and only five or so squash plants survived.  But the grapes were under cover in the back and only recently found by the beak heads. So we retrieved as much as we could.

Tomatoes Vs Sept Vogue

This is 2 quarts of Juliet tomatoes that needs to be processed. I'm thinking of blanching skinning and freezing. Just to the right of Project BSF is a ten pound Vogue that needs processing too.

Who is going to win the afternoon with Judy?

The Pouring Of Sake

A collection of nibbles and the pouring of sake for this latest edition of Sake Sunday, I present to you.

I bought a new toaster. One that automatically lowers. No manual pushing down of lever. So making toast is my new hobby. And putting things on toast is the corollary.

So roasted garlic (slightly burnt, I know they look like shiitakes), hummus, pickles (a palette freshener), double cream gouda (sigh), brie (double sigh), and some sliced pears (because I love the brie-pear combo).

Windrose Market

We went to our favorite market yesterday to get fresh organic fruits and veggies. It was the first time I've been there since Windrose Market has open for business. In the picture above, the foreground is Windrose and the background, that is light and purplish is Nature's Touch, an organic food market and nursery.
I've always wanted to visit the actual farm when it was just over the river and through the woods from where we used to live, but never did. So I'm glad they decided it was time to come to town.
They took over a corner of Nature's Touch Market,
and sell some unusual varieties of heirloom apples and potatoes.
And baby greens.

Peachy Drink

Inspired by popsicles makers and luscious donut peaches, I decided to freeze diced peaches in a glass very much like this one. I mushed them all down to remove air pockets. Stuck the glass in the freezer overnight, and when I came in from the garden today looking for a cool drink, I slightly defrosted the smashed peaches and disked the log. Put them into a small glass and added club soda.

Ta Da! A peach cooler!

Thanks Alicia for the bag of donut peaches. We been feasting on them!

What Does It Look Like?

I've got three of these puppies, all about eight inches in diameter. And to think I nearly yanked those yellow wilty plants out of the garden a month or so after I transplanted them. Sometimes doing nothing pays off.
